Modernisation of UK's gas transmission system

Global engineering and consulting company Wood has made a five-year framework agreement with National Gas to modernise the UK's gas transmission system.

Wood aims to transform National Gas's critical assets into sleek, cyber-secure technology across its entire UK network. The plan includes digitally upgrading 7,600 km of pipelines, compressor stations, and terminal infrastructure. The aim is to enhance sustainability as well as security.

Wood will provide specialised hydrogen studies to National Gas, supporting the company's ambition to achieve net zero emissions in line with the UK government's target of 2050.
Utilising up to 20% hydrogen blending into the gas grid in conjunction with conventional natural gas could potentially save roughly six million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Hydrogen Pipeline Project for Teeside

Infrastructure solutions company Costain just got the go-ahead for a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract by bp for a new hydrogen pipeline network on Teesside.

The multimillion-pound project is part of a broader initiative to establish a robust hydrogen infrastructure across the UK, aligning with the UK’s decarbonisation goals. The successful implementation of this project could lead to increased demand for specialised materials and construction solutions tailored for hydrogen pipelines.

Record revenues for stats group

STATS Group has reported record revenues for 2023 and a 26% increase in turnover. Driven by the global demand for pipeline integrity services, particularly in key markets outside the UK, the Aberdeenshire-based pipeline technology company has also secured significant contracts within the UK, particularly in the onshore gas distribution market, indicating a strong domestic performance alongside its international expansion.

The company is introducing an employee ownership scheme, for the first time in its 60-year history.

Proserv has reported a 34% increase in annual turnover and employs roughly 800 people across 13 facilities in the UK and Europe, America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
