Balau Specification
Balau is part of the Dipterocarpaceae family, it is also known by it's latin name Shorea and the timber originates from Malaysia. Balau is graded to D70 class, making this a very durable timber.
The colour of Balau ranges from pale straw to a darker reddish brown, it has an even texture and the grain can be interlocked. This timber is hard. hevy and very dense with a high bending and crushing strength and resistance to shock loads and high stiffness. It has a moderate steam bending classification requiring strong support on the outer face.
The main uses of Balau include, heavy construction work, general construction, bridges, veener, flooring, decking, plywood and outdoor furniture.
