The colour of Ekki varies from a dark red to chocolate brown, with white conspicuous white deposits in the pores giving a speckled appearance. It has an interlocked grain with a coarse and uneven texture. It glues satisfactory an can be stained and polished normally.
The main uses of Ekki include marine construction, sleepers, heavy construction, heavy duty flooring, bridge building, bog mats, superior joinery and decking.
